10 Best Funny Websites to Make You Laugh

Looking for the best funny websites that actually make you laugh, instead of showing you the same recycled memes for the hundredth time? I’ve been there.

A few years ago, my social feeds turned into an endless loop of reposted jokes and noise picked by an algorithm. So I went looking for sites built only for humour, and what I found changed how I enjoy comedy online.

The comedy internet looks very different in 2026 than it did even three years ago. Comedy Central wiped most of its video library off its website. Funny or Die dropped the voting system that gave it its name. Quickmeme went quiet.

Meanwhile, The Onion came back to print, and Reddit’s joke communities kept growing. A lot of “best funny websites” lists online still recommend sites that barely work anymore, so I rebuilt this one from scratch.

Below are 10 funny websites I’ve spent real time on and checked again this month. For each one, you’ll see what it’s good at, how much time it takes, and who it suits.

If you’d rather settle in for a comedy movie night, see my list of the best free movie download sites.

Why Dedicated Humour Sites Still Beat Your Social Feed

Your social feed mixes comedy with news, ads, arguments, and whatever the algorithm thinks will keep you scrolling. A humour site only has one job.

You open it when you want to laugh, you get what you came for, and you close it.

When I switched from passive scrolling to visiting a few specific sites, three things changed. My mood stayed steadier because I wasn’t wandering into angry comment sections.

I found comedy styles I never would have seen on Instagram, like long satirical essays and science comics. And I spent less time online overall while enjoying it more.

If you blog or work from home, short laugh breaks pair well with these easy stress-busting tips for bloggers.

Cheezburger: Animals, Fails, and Classic Internet Humour

CheezBurger - Best funny websites
  • Save

Cheezburger started in 2007 with the “I Can Has Cheezburger” lolcat blog, and it helped make cat memes a permanent part of the internet.

Today it’s a network of sites under Literally Media, including I Can Has Cheezburger, Fail Blog, and Memebase.

The strength here is choice. If you only want funny animals, stay on I Can Has Cheezburger.

If you want people failing at simple tasks, go to Fail Blog. Each site is organised into themed galleries, so you’re not wading through content you don’t care about.

It feels more curated and less chaotic than 9GAG. The flip side is that it moves slower, and many galleries are roundups of things that went viral elsewhere.

Want to make your own funny clips to share? A free animation video maker is an easy place to start.

Best for: Animal lovers, fail-video fans, and people who know exactly what kind of humour they want.

The Onion: The Gold Standard Of Satire

Best Funny Websites - The Onion
  • Save

The Onion started in 1988 as a student paper in Madison, Wisconsin, and it’s still the sharpest fake-news outlet around.

It’s also had an interesting couple of years. Global Tetrahedron, a company backed by former Twilio CEO Jeff Lawson, bought it in 2024 and installed former NBC News reporter Ben Collins as CEO.

Then The Onion did something nobody expected from a digital publisher: it relaunched a monthly print edition, which passed 65,000 paying subscribers by March 2026.

The headlines alone are worth the visit. Many of them work as a complete joke before you even click. The articles parody the dry tone of real news reports, which is why they land so well.

One warning: The Onion’s satire is good enough that people share it as real news. Read the URL before you forward anything to your family group chat.

Best for: People who like smart, dark, topical humour and don’t mind politics in their comedy.

9GAG: Still the Fastest Way to Get a Laugh

9gag - best funny websites
  • Save

9GAG launched in 2008 and is still one of the biggest humour sites on the internet.

Third-party estimates put it at close to 100 million visits a month in early 2026, and the company claims a global audience of around 150 million across its site, app, and social channels.

You scroll a feed of memes, GIFs, and short clips, upvote what you like, and follow tags (gaming, anime, wholesome, and so on) to shape what you see.

After 15 minutes or so of voting, the feed gets noticeably better at guessing what you’ll find funny.

The trade-off is ads. There are a lot of them on the free version. The app offers a paid Pro tier that strips them out, which is worth it if 9GAG becomes your daily habit.

The comment sections can also get rough, so I usually skip them.

Best for: Coffee breaks, commutes, and anyone who wants visual humour with zero effort.

Cracked: Funny Articles that Teach You Something

cracked - best funny websites
  • Save

Cracked has been around in some form since 1958, when it launched as a print magazine copying Mad’s style.

The website arrived in 2005, and by 2012 it was the most visited humour site in the world, famous for long, funny list articles that mixed jokes with real research.

Today’s Cracked isn’t the Cracked of 2012. After a 2017 round of layoffs that cut much of its best-known writing staff, the site changed owners and is now run by Literally Media, the same company behind Cheezburger and Know Your Meme.

The articles are shorter and more pop culture-focused than they used to be. The old archive is still worth digging through, though, and the newer pieces are a solid lunch-break read.

If you enjoy this style of writing and want to try it yourself, check out these sites that pay you for writing.

Best for: Readers who want humour with some substance, and anyone curious about movie trivia and weird history.

Bored Panda: Feel-good Viral Roundups

Best Funny Websites - Bored Panda
  • Save

Bored Panda launched in Lithuania in 2009 and grew into one of the largest entertainment sites online, with Wikipedia citing over 100 million monthly unique visitors.

Its format is the big image list: “50 times people found something hilarious at work,” that kind of thing.

The tone is mostly wholesome. You’ll find clever signs, funny tweets, pet photos, and crowd-sourced stories that leave you in a better mood than when you started. It’s the site I’d send someone who finds 9GAG too edgy.

Two drawbacks. The ad load is heavy, and much of the content is collected from social media, which has drawn criticism from creators about credit and permission.

The lists can also run very long, so it’s easy to lose half an hour.

Best for: Wholesome humour, scrolling with family, and anyone who wants to feel good rather than laugh at someone.

Funny or Die: Celebrity Sketches

Funny or Die
  • Save

Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy, and Mark Kvamme founded Funny or Die in 2007.

It became famous with “The Landlord,” a sketch starring Ferrell and a foul-mouthed toddler, and later with “Between Two Ferns” featuring Zach Galifianakis.

The site you may remember, where users uploaded videos and voted them “Funny” or “Die,” doesn’t exist anymore.

Funny or Die dropped the voting and its own video player in 2018 and now calls itself an independent comedy studio. Most of its sketches live on its YouTube channel, and its website library is being rebuilt.

So treat it as a channel to subscribe to, not a site to browse. The back catalogue of celebrity sketches is still excellent.

Best for: Video comedy fans and anyone who wants polished sketches with famous faces.

Memedroid: Memes For People Who Also Make Memes

Memedroid - best funny websites
  • Save

Memedroid has been running for over a decade and has apps on both Android and iOS.

Like 9GAG, you rate and comment on memes, but Memedroid adds a built-in meme creator with a large library of templates, plus leaderboards and achievements for active users.

That makes it a better fit if you like making memes, not just looking at them. The community is smaller than 9GAG’s, so the feed refreshes a bit slower, but it also feels less chaotic.

If you need clean background images for your own memes, these free stock image websites help.

Best for: Meme creators and people who want something a little calmer than 9GAG.

Reddit’s r/Jokes and r/funny: The Biggest Comedy Communities Online

Reddit Jokes
  • Save

Reddit is technically not a humour website, but its comedy communities are bigger than most humour sites put together.

As of May 2025, r/Jokes had about 30 million members and r/funny about 67 million, making r/funny the largest community on the whole platform.

r/Jokes is pure text. The setup goes in the title, and the punchline goes in the post. With no images or video to lean on, the joke has to hold up on wording and timing alone.

The comment threads are half the fun, because people pile on with alternate punchlines and terrible puns.

Quality varies a lot. Sorting by “Top” for the past week or month filters out most of the duds. For pictures and video instead of text, switch to r/funny.

Best for: Pun lovers, people who like to join in, and anyone who already has a Reddit account.

McSweeney’s Internet Tendency: Humour For Readers

Best Funny Websites - McSweeney's Internet Tendency
  • Save

McSweeney’s Internet Tendency is the online humour section of the literary publisher McSweeney’s, and it publishes new pieces every weekday.

Think short satirical essays, absurd lists, and parodies of corporate emails or school newsletters.

The humour is drier and more literary than anything else on this list. A lot of it targets modern work life, parenting, and politics.

If a piece hits your sense of humour, it really hits, and the archive goes back over 25 years.

There are almost no ads, and most pieces take two to five minutes to read.

Best for: Book lovers, writers, and people who prefer a clever sentence to a funny picture.

xkcd: The Best Nerdy Webcomic On The Internet

Best Funny Websites - XKCD
  • Save

xkcd is a stick-figure webcomic by Randall Munroe, a former NASA roboticist. It has updated every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for almost two decades, and it’s still going in 2026.

The comics cover science, math, programming, language, and relationships. Some take two seconds to get.

Some send you down a Wikipedia rabbit hole. Always hover over the comic (or long-press on mobile) to read the hidden alt text, which often holds a second joke.

There are no ads on the site at all. Munroe’s books, like What If?, are just as good if you want more.

Best for: Developers, students, science fans, and anyone who likes humour that makes them think.

How to Choose the Right Funny Website for You

Start with how much time you have. For a five-minute break, open 9GAG, xkcd, or a McSweeney’s piece. With half an hour to spare, try Cracked, Bored Panda, or a few Funny or Die sketches.

Then think about format. If you like pictures, go with 9GAG, Cheezburger, Memedroid, or Bored Panda. If you like reading, The Onion, Cracked, and McSweeney’s are your best bets.

For video, Funny or Die on YouTube is the strongest pick here. For pure jokes, nothing beats r/Jokes.

Last, decide whether you want to participate. Reddit and Memedroid reward joining in, whether that’s posting jokes or making memes. The Onion, McSweeney’s, and xkcd are better if you just want to sit back and read.

What Makes a Funny Website Worth Bookmarking

After years of trying comedy sites, I’ve noticed a few things the good ones share.

A smaller, engaged community beats a huge, toxic one. I’d take a site with thoughtful voting and friendly comments over a giant feed full of insults any day.

Variety keeps you coming back. Your mood changes, and the sites that offer more than one format hold your attention longer. The same idea drives good social media strategies.

Consistency matters more than size. xkcd has updated on the same three days a week for almost twenty years. That reliability is why people still check it.

If you are looking for something else, visit our list of creepiest websites and weird websites.

Conclusion

No single website works for everyone, because humour is personal. Here’s the short version:

  • 9GAG for fast memes
  • The Onion for satire
  • Reddit’s r/Jokes for text jokes and community
  • Cracked for funny articles with real information
  • Cheezburger for animals and fails
  • Bored Panda for wholesome viral roundups
  • Memedroid for making your own memes
  • McSweeney’s for literary humour
  • xkcd for science and nerd jokes
  • Funny or Die for celebrity sketch videos

I personally rotate between three of these. 9GAG for quick ten-minute breaks. Cracked for evening reading when I want something with a bit of substance. Reddit’s r/Jokes when I want to join in.

Pick one that matches your time and taste and use it for a week. Pay attention to what makes you laugh and what you scroll past. That will tell you more about your sense of humour than any list, including this one.
